How would you decide the perfect varietal for your vineyard?
If you are at 1,900 feet, on a terraced hillside at the base of Palomar Mountain, a site that enjoys Southern California sunshine, a pleasant ocean breeze daily up the San Luis Rey River bed and cool evening temperatures every night - you might look at the globe and notice your micro-climate mirrors that of Tuscany - one of the great wine producing areas in the world. (especially, if you're like me and you love Sangiovese...)
We were and we did - we planted our first vineyard with Sangiovese vines. There is no more vigorous and enthusiastic vine than this...very Italian!
For five years, we produced this hearty red Sangiovese wine - to the delight of all who tasted. (We found lots of new friends!) And that's the way we started...
Stay tuned (0oops - this isn't radio...) - we'll tell you more soon about our Zin, our Cabernet, and our brand new Chardonnay.

Welcome Wine Lovers!
We welcome all wine lovers, but especially our friends from San Diego County.
Since 1972, I've been doing business - on air radio business - at 760 KFMB and 1170 KCBQ (Charlie and Harrigan); 760 KFMB (Jack and Joe) and Mighty 1090 as myself on "Golfing Around." (Golfing is my other passion - you can find me regularly at the Pauma Valley Country Club - still trying to learn how to play this game).
But the reason for the blog is to introduce you to the joys of local wines and winemaking. Rather than trying to wake you up in the morning and make you laugh, I'd like to take you inside the wonderful world of California wine making. It's a challenge, it's frustrating, it's back breaking - but it's more rewarding than anything in my life so far.

About Me, the winemaker

- After 45 years as a Radio Broadcaster (Disc Jockey, Talk Show Host, Station Manager, Station group owner, my wife and I retired to an orange grove and twenty acres in the foothills of Mount Palomar. It was at this time that I turned my life-long hobby into a full scale operation...winemaking. Ten years of developing a vineyard, building a winery, studying Viticulture and Enology at Cal Davis and the absolutely perfect location and microclimate have come together in an exceptional collection - these Pauma Valley wines.
